The farm
Award winning farming! The Mather family were recently awarded British Limousin national commercial herd champion by the national Limousin society in celebration of their 50th anniversary, testament to the high standards of welfare they maintain at Besshill.
Farming family
The Mathers have been farming at Besshill for 75 years and can trace family history back in the local area through generations.
Carbon neutral target
The Mathers are aiming to be a certified carbon neutral farm. In the last 18 months they’ve planted 3600 native hardwood trees and allowing hedges to mature to provide wildlife corridors.
Home reared beef
All our beef is from Besshill’s own suckler cows, where the calves are reared by their mums for at least the first nine months of their life. They are fed mainly on their own pasture and silage, alongside Harpers ‘Planet range’ of feed (which doesn’t contain palm oil or soya), the finished on barley grown by the Cook family at Pickwell Barton, Georgeham.
